It's getting to that point of the year when it's actually starting to feel like fall is approaching in Austin, 80's by day and 60's by night. The apartment we moved into has a fireplace and even though I've turned it on a couple times it's been too hot to keep it on for long. This weekend it's going to be in the 60's and I'm excited to curl up by the fire and watch some movies. A fireplace is a great centerpiece and just makes such a statment no matter how you do it.

Gobble Gobble
Last thanksgiving was a little out of the norm because it was the first time I wasn't at my grandparent's house in New Hampshire with my family. I always loved seeing all the autumn (and I guess, sometimes winter) scenery as we drove up and then smelling their wood burning fire while hanging out enjoying each other's company. It was always so relaxing and I never had to do much except sleep in and eat (and eat and eat and eat) so last year was a little more difficult. The four of us had our own thanksgiving dinner and boy did it make me appreciate what my grandma and mom do every year! It was a very delicious meal, but the 4 of us cooked enough food for about 20 people so by the time we had finished eating I was ready for a 24 hour nap.
This year we'll be in Austin again, but my sister is moving to Houston so she'll be coming too! I'm planning on having some friends over that day, but I want to have more fun with it and put my designer/creative brain to good use.

The Things That Matter
I'm very excited because I pre-ordered Nate Berkus' new book "The Things That Matter" a couple weeks ago. I read a little about what to expect and it seems like such a great concept. I've always admired interiors that evolve over time with special pieces from family, travels etc. I haven't had much of a chance to collect much since I've never owned a house and because my traveling has been limited so far, but my plan is to someday be surrounded by pieces with their own great story and meaning. Here's some Nate inspiration for the day, his color and texture always amaze me... (I'll share more once I get the book).
